Shakespeare's Secret

Hi Jay and Danielle!

I hope that the first two chapters of the new book have been enjoyable! For Monday, I will have you read through Chapter 5 (pg. 51). Monday during class time you will be responsible for posting 3 open-ended questions about the first 5 chapters.

You will also need to respond to my questions!

1. I want you to visualize Hero. Describe character traits of Hero and provide evidence to support those traits.

2. How do you think Hero's character traits impact the storyline? Explain.

Good luck with blogging and happy reading!

I think that Hero really wants to fit in at her new school but is usualy someone teases her anyway. I think she wants to be different than her sister. She must be tired of being treated like her. She also likes to be independent.

  2. Danielle,

Remember to find evidence in the story to support your thinking. You can even be as specific as quoting from the book or providing page numbers for us to refer to.

1.Do you think that Hero is getting more comfortable around Mrs. Roth now, or do you think she is still a little jittery around her?

2.Do you think that Hero will fit in more once people know that she lives at the Murphy house, or do you think that now that the joke has been made, it will stick to her.

3.Do you think that Mr. Murphy really faked the robbery, or do you think that it was all true, and the diamond really was stolen from the house?Personally, I think that it was all a fake, but that's just me.

1.I think that Hero is very used to getting made fun of all the time every time she switches schools. I think she also doesn't really care what other people say, and she just goes to school because she has to.

  7. 1. I do not think that Hero really knows how to respond to Mrs. Roth. Hero appears more comfortable blending in and being more in the background of life. To have someone engage Hero in conversation and take an interest in her is something new. It will be interesting to see how their relationship progresses throughout the book!

    2. If I had to guess, I would say that Hero will still be getting teased. I am not sure that their is enough interest about the house and the mystery of the diamond to convince kids to be interested. I also think that for this particular age group, it is easier to focus on the kids who are different!

    3. It really does sound like Mr. Murphy faked the robbery. If he didn't place the diamond somewhere, wouldn't the police have found it? I think Mr. Murphy may come back to play a part in the story, along with Mrs. Roth?

1.) Why do you think Hero wants to find the diamond? Maybe she wants to have more friends and she thinks that finding the diamond will make her more popular.

2.) Why do you think Mrs. Roth likes Danny. If I was her I wouldn't trust him because if he asked Mrs. Roth about the Murphy diamond and she told him somthing he could tell his dad.
